THE LATE BAND CONTEST.
(Phb United Fbess Association) Invekcargill, Deoatnbar 19. At ft meeting of the Band Contest; Gommitfcae to-night the Oamaru Navals claimed a ihnre, £8 the non-sucsessfal band, of the proceeds of the quick-step competition on the ground that the dispute as to the selection contest moaay had no bearing on the quick-step event. The Dunedm Naval and Kaikerai B*nds also claimed shares of the quick-step proceeds oa the grounds that the circular sent to the bands prior to the cantest, and also the official programme, stated that the proceeds of the qaiek-st*p competition were to be divided among the visiting bands, not among the non-sacceasful competing bauds only. Tae secretary admitted that the word " non-successful" had been inadvertently omitted in copying. The committee decided to forward to the b:\nds applying a copy of the resolution passed prior fco the contest to fcha effect that the proceeds be devoted to the expenses of bands from a distance unsuccessful in the band eantfist, or bands that have not received a concession of free railway passes. In connection with the msjor dispute aR tr> the right of the Inveresrgill Garrison Band to receive the first prize, it w«i revolved— " That the haud be written to, and attention drawn to the letter sent them in answer to theirs claiming tlie £100 prize, to which no reply was received, and that the band be asked if the committee is to assume that the 7 have abandoned their claim to the money."
