During the month business (fov this season of the year) has besn fairly brisk and quite np to ita usual average, the total number of vessels of all classes at the port of Ofcago daring that period beiug 45, with a total of 47,592 tons register ; as against 40 vessels kst month, with 42,280 tons. The departures this month have been 37 vessels, representing a total of 56,275 tons; as against 41 vessels last month, with a total of 43,760 tons. Our arrivals from oversea' ports this month have been confined to two vessels, representing 5065 tone, and there has been only one departure, with a total of 4050 tons, Last month the arrivals were four vessels, with 7016 tons, and the departures one vessel of 433JL tons. ■ ■• ' The first vessel to arrive from overseas this month was the New' Zealand Shipping Company's barque Wairoa, of 1015 tons, Captain Fox, from London, with 1388 tons of general C3rgo, after a passage of 102 days from dock to port, on October 8. She was followed on the next day by the name company's flue cargo steamer Tekoa, of 4050 tons, Lieutenant Stuart, from London, after a passage of under 54 days, and bringing 3500 tons of cargo. The only departure was that of the Tekoa, which left the Victoria wharf, Dunedin, for London, via'northern ports; ori October 17, and proceeded direct to sea without touching at Port Chalmers.
