Mr J, Kluier, was the. presiding justice at tha sitting of the City Police Court yesterday morning, when one finrt offender, charged with drunkenness, was convicted aud discharged. Mr C. R. Carter, an ex-Wnirarapa settler, now resident in London, bought for a little over £50 some 500 volumes of standard works for the Carterton public library, and tho ship' meat has just been received. [ A contributor to the Tnapefea Times writes:—• "A curious thing I have r<Ciutly noticed is that farmers in the Clutba district aro going in with great energy this seasoa for bsrley growing. lam told there is not a farmer in the prohibition district of Tapanui hut has pat in a big crop of barley. What, I wonder, does this indicate ? "
