OUE VOLUNTEERS.
At the Engineers' orderly room on Friday evening Captain Beal lectured to the members of the corps on the " Preparation of Plans and Description of Work," and during his address gave some very serviceable information. The Shooting Committee of the company met last evening. It was resolrcd to open the shooting season on Saturday next with a handicap com° petition for prizes presented by the cerpii, and to fire the first cup match upon Use Saturday following. Correspondence was read from the Canterbury Engineers re a junior team match at Christchuroh during the New Year holidays. A match between the fonr sections of the corps was also arranged for. The following team «r»B selected to fire against the PortobeUo Rifle Club at Papanui Inlet on Labour Day viz., j Sergeants Boacb, Barton, end Bryant, Coi. '

It is understood that among the recommendations of tha Volunteer Conference is the abolition of the grant to New Zealand rifle associations, the non-recognition of rifle clubs, and the establishment of reserve corps, into which volunteers, after a certain number of years' service, may retire.
