CITY POLICE COURT.
Thursday, July 26. (Before Mr E. H. Carew, 5.11.)
Drunkenness.—A first offender was convicted tvnn discharged.
Neglecting Children. — Sarah Lucas was charged, on three informations, with neglecting her children.-Mr Hanlon, for the defendant, asked for an-adjournment, so that his client's husband, who was on ene of the boats, might be Present when the case was gone into.—Sergeant 0 Neill said the case had already been adjourned, and three witnesses summoned to attend were present.—Hiß Worship granted an adjournment for a week, allowing costs to the witnesses in attendance.
The Industrial Schools Act.—Andrew Henry (four years) and Violet O'Kane (eight months) were brought before the court aa children within the meaning of the Industrial Schools Act—The mother of the children, who are illegitimate, gave evidence to show that she was in indigent circumstances, and unable to support them.—The two children were committed to the Industrial School, to be brought up in the Koman Catholic form of religion.
Bus Drivers' Differences. — Andrew P. Leith was charged by Andrew Ross with assaulting him on the 18th inst. at Dunodin.^-Mr Sinclair appeared for the informant, and Mr Hanlon for the defendant, who pleaded guilty, but objected to being csmpelled to enter into sureties of the peace.—Mr Sinclair asked for sureties, as informant was afraid that defendant would waylay him, as he had threatened to do.—After hearing evidence, his Worship decided that there was no necessity to call upon defendant to find sureties to keep the peace. The threat was made four months ago, and no attempt had been made to carry it out. His Worship would inflict a fine of 50s and costs (448); in default seven days' imprison-ment.-Defendant waa allowed tiU Monday to pay the fine.
