SOUTH DUNEDIN.

An ordinary meeting of the South Dunedin Borough Council, held last night, was attended by the Mayor (Mr E. Osborne), Crs Marlow, Baker, M'Kay, Holley, Fiddis, Rennie, Scott, and Fisher.

Mr H. B. Courtis, gas engineer for the City Corporation, forwarded a circular asking the council to bear testimony 'to the economy, efficiency, and utility of the gas stoves they had in use, as he was anxious to bring before the public of Dunedin the advantages of cooking and heating by means of gas.—Received. The Inspector of Works forwarded a Bketoh showing what work had been done to drain the sections bounded by Surrey street, Cargill road, Brunswick atreet, and Macandrew road.— Received.

The Finance Committee recommended th-vt £20 12s for municipal accounts, £6 33 for water supply, and £16 133 4d for sanitary accounts be passed for pajment. The committee reported lhat the treasurer's a.at3ment showed the balar.ces of the several accounts to be as follow:—Dr. municipal account, £3186 1.3 5d ; Dr. water supply, £556 19s sd; Cr. sanitary account, £40 16j 7d; Dr. interest account, £27 14b Id.—The repbrt was adopted. Au application by Wm. Cunningham to be placed on the burgess roll was granted. The aunual statutory meeting of the couucil, for heariug and determining objections to the burgesa roll, was then held.

There being no objections to the roll, the Mayor_ and Cre Fisher and M'Kay were authorised to si_;n the same.
