The coal export from Greymouth last week was 2749 tons and the timber export 175,496 ft. The Westport Coal Company exported 4602 tons of coal last week and the Mokihinui Company 541 tons. For the past four weeks 104 tens of butter have been shipped from New Plymouth for London. The friendly societies in Auckland aro about to establish a friendly societies' dispensary. Mr John Stronach will shortly resign his position as manager of Tarras and Morven Hill stations. At the social at Hyde on the occasion of the opening of tbe Rock and Pillar section oE the Otago Central railway Mr J. J. Ramsay (the chairman) at the close called for threo cheers for the Hon. V. Pyke, M.H R. All present rose to their feet and responded vociferously. Tho hospital returns for the past week are :— Remaining from previous week, 109; admitted during the week, 24; discharged, 23; total remainiug in the institution, 110. Thera were na deaths. At a meeting of tho committee of the jubilee coavalescsnt fund, held on Saturday, and attended by Me6dames Webster, Oliver, Morris, Theomin, Carew, Colquhoun, James Allen, Hoclcen, and Downie Stewart, it was decided to pay for the sending of four applicants for a fortnight each to the country. The following donations jwere received: Mr A. W. Morris, £3 13s; from Mr T. Si Graham (on behalf o£ Masonic lodge entertainment), £5 5a 9d. Boom of English cycles. New Howe, weight 321b, £23 10a. The estates of 28 deceased persons wero dealt with by the Public Trustee last month. The largest estates were those of—Richard Turner, Dunedin, £200; A. M'Kenzie, Bluff, £165; Sarah AHum, New Plymouth, £155; Agnes Grundy, Napisr, £140; Catherine Conrick, Wellington, £120; John Murray, Great Barrier Island, £110; William E. Carr, CttllensviUe. £100; Robert Gordon, Hunterville, £100 • T S. Jones, Auckland, £85 ; Edward Holmes, Manurewa, £70; W. A. Yewen, Oxford, £50. ■ . - The Wellington weekly Fair Play will in future be published as a monthly magazine. As improvements in the illustrations are promised, and arrangements made to secure contributions from well-known colonial writers, the new venture should meet with public favour. The editorship has been entrusted to Mr Arthur M'Kee. ■
The rehearsals for " Maritana," which is to be produced shortly at the Princess Theatre by Mr Albert -Richardson, are progressing satisfactorily. There will be a large and efficient chorus and orchestra, and the following will probably be the caste of principals:—Maritana, Miss Beatrice Richardson; Lazarillo, Miss Vivian and Miss Hewson; Don Crasar de Bszin, Mr J. Blenkinsopp and Mr E. Packer; Don Joeo, Mr W. Scot and Mr W. Woods; King of Spain, Mr ,W. Bray and Mr A. V. Richardson. The role of Don Joso will be sustained by Mr Albert Richardson at the final performance. This is a character iv which he has achieved much success in the leading Australian theatres in the famous Lyster Opera Company.
