The police were repulsed, but rallied and arrested many of the rioters. ■ Sydney, May B, So far the outcome of mediation between the Labour members in Parliament and the Labour Electoral League is not encouraging. The league assert that they have tried every possible means to bring about a reconciliation, and are now determHed that every candidate shall sign a pledge. A manifesto has been issued to tbo shearers' unions throughout the country urging the men to decline to make any engagements except on the terms ruling during the past three years.

A Christchurch telegram states that the mayor has opened a tubseription list to raise funds to provide work for the unemployed daring the winter months.

A Wellington telegram says that a deputation, who Biiid they represented 50 single men unemployed, tried to get an interview with the Minister for Labour and Premier on Saturday morning, but failed. The latter was too busy and the former referred themtoMrTregear, who happened, however, to be away. The men said they must have work, and intend to wait on Ministers again on Monday.
