A VOICE FROM THE HOSPITAL.

TO THE EDITOR,

Sib,—l have recently been a patient in the hospital. When I was told I could leave and had informed the sick man in the next bed to mine that I was going out he implored me to call at or writo to one of the daily newspapers about the introduction of bras 3 instruments in connection with the open-air preaching of the Hanover street Baptist Church. I promised to do so, and now state from personal experience that the musical portion tf these services has a very irritating and injurious effect upon the helpless sufferer in that institution.

After a long day of painful suffering and when the time for putting out the gas has arrived, the sick generally feel an inclination to doze oft' into a restful sleep. Just then those instruments of torture—cornetsand drums—make night hideous to the 6ick, causing an amount of irritation and nervousness that is not conducive to a speedy recovery. I hope, Sir, you will, in the causa of humanity, mention this matter in your paper so that the practice may bo discontinued in the future. If you do so you will receive thegrateful thanks of many a sufferer in the public hospital. Surely the Christian religion <3ses not require that sort of aid to bring home to the hearts and miuds of men the plain and truthful teachings of Jesus.—l am, &c,

Dunedin, April 27.
