WLLIES CROSSING SCHOOL. TO THE EDITOR.

Sii^—My haviug t ta&n a &en interest, in educational matters he(9 for some years* is the apology I offer for troubling you with this letter. . ■. I was rather staggered the other morning ~by reading in our local paper (the Taieri Advocate) that a school committee had .been elected for Wylie's Crossing, not haviDg heard that.any, district had been assigned to tho new school there.'.

I wkh it to be clearly understood, that I am not) writing la a partisan, spirit. Whether the new school ttao necessary of desirable is none of my business; whether the teftchers at Hfsrth Taieri have been fairly treated may to safely left to public opinion. What I am interested to know is how a committee could be elected before the boundaries of the school district had been defined ? It seems that the gentlsmen named in the report referred to must have been self-elected, and of course illegally so. I suppose they will now bo endeavouring to gst as large a constituency as they po3sib!y can by advising the "'baard''ris to the advantages of catting off a good slice from' North T aieri, East Taieri, and Mosgiel School districts. 1 .think it would ba only fair for the Education Board to send out a deputation to confer with representatives of the various committees interested,',as

it occurs t) me that it would not bo to the advantage of education to have, Sly, the Mojgiel School district so reduced as to bring the attendance so low as to render a redaction of the teaching staff allowable. It certainly behoves the Hosgiel Sohool Committee to be on ths alert,—l am, &c,

Mosgiel, April 2(3. Sst>!?En Viguanck.
