BOROUGH COUNCIL MEETINGS.

PORT CHALMERS.

The regular meeting of the Port Chalmers Borough Council, held on Wednesday evening, w.as attended by his Worship the Mayor (Mr J. Watson Jan.), Crs Inverarity, Madge, Chick, M'lnnes, Murray, Suttoii, Allen* Mitchell, J. WatßOn sen;, Fedlow, and Dawson.

Mr J; Ness wrote calling attention to the fact that a part of the footpath on the ripper level of Grey street remained unasphalted, and pointed out that its condition was dangerous to personß using tile path.—Referred to the Works Committee for report. The Messrs Shanks wrote in reference to the drainage at the.back of the old courthouse (on which th'ey are building) which' In consequence of thpre being no outlet flowed on th" eif premises: They estimated the. cost of. laying a suitable drain would bs £3 ss, and expressed their willingness to contribute half that, amount. —Referred to the Works Committee to report'.

BEPORTS. The Works Ootomitteo reported that since last.meeting of the council the inspector and Btaff had been engaged in repairing and cleaning streets and laying asphalt.—Adopted. The Lighting Committee recommended that the borough lamps ba lit for six months, commencing from the 28th iu6t., at 11s 9d per lamp per month.—Adopted. The Byrlaw Committee reported re Mr B. Inuis's request to erect a shooting gallery, that having inspected the premises they recommend the application be granted, -provided the neighbours have no objection, the hours for shooting not to be later than 10 p.m.—Adopted. The Finance Committee recommended the payment of accounts amouuting to £58 3s 4d. The state of the funds in the bank were:— Debit water account, £959 lls sd; credit general account, £171 13j; accounts payable, £58 3s 4d;—total debit, £846 Is 9d. The committee had no recommendation to make in respect to a letter received frem Mr O. J. Gould, of Washington. The detailed accounts received from the returning officer in connection with the recent licensing election had been examined and found correot, and the balance of moneys advanced had been placed to the credit of the douucil. Coupons to the amount of. £52 10b had beer?paid to the bank since last meeting.—Adopted. , , , .
