The average attendance for the year has been 23?, but owing to the sickness prevalent amongst the children during the past few weeks the last quarter's attendance has been much below the usual average. The school examination of last year was highly satisfactory there being only two failures ovar the whole school. The pupil teachers finished their apprenticeship and received from the Education department, on the recommendation of -the inspector, DJ certificates. One is now teacher of Becks School, Lauder district, two are attending the university, and the fourth is at home. The following pupil teachers were appointed on the recommendation of Mr Petrie:—Louisa Cameron, Jessie Popa, and Chrissie Stenhouse. The public examinations were well represented by our school. Four passed the matriculation examination of the New Zealand University, one passed the teachers' D examination, one got partial D and finished E, two gained free education in the Dunedin High School from the scholarship examination, three passed the civil service examinations, and six went from the school to fill permanent appointments from having passed" the' civil service examinations. Through an epidemic of measles amongst the children the school was closed for a month at the end of June and beginning of July. Considerable damage was caused to the roof of the school building by the very severe gale experienced, a number of trees were also blown down, which have been utilised for firewood. The school lavatories have been removed during the year to a more convenient position; the school buildings have been kept in good repair; improvements made to school grounds; and some repairs to the rector's house have also been attended to. Arbor Day was held on the 17th August, when a large number of trees wereplaated on the street line on the west side of the school grounds, and a treat was provided for about 350 children, the funds for the Bame being raised by an Arbor Day concert.
