THE LICENSING ELECTIONS.
Up to the present, 1128 applications have been received by Mr Hall for enrolment on the City roll. Of that number, 608 are applications for reinstatement and 520 new applications. Mr T. Scott his been selected as the Temperance candidate for the Mornington portion of the City district, and Mr H. Spears will take the place of Mr W. Hutchison, M.H.B. The candidates as now selected aro: Messrs W. Dickson, J. Jolly jun,, I. Selby, H. Spears, T. Scott, W. Wardrop, A, Walker, and W. H. Warren. At the meeting of the Port Chalmers Borough Council yesterday evening, Or Murray moved and Cr Mudge seconded —" That a request from the returning officer of the licensing electorate to have, the sum of £120 placed to his credit for expenses of the forthcoming election be refused and the matter referred to Wellington." The motion was lost, only the mover and seconder voting for it, (Pbb United Pbess Association.) Wellington, February 26. The licensing elections here aro fixed for March 21. Christchurch, Febrnary 26. One thousand applications for enrolment in the Christchurch electoral district have been received. Not more than 15 applications have been made in either the Avon.or Biccarton electorates. Hokitika, February 26. The public meeting of the Temperance party held this evening in connection with the licensing elections was thinly attended, and but little enthusiasm was displayed. The returning officer for the Waikouaiti licensing district notifies that nominations of candidates for election as a licensing bench must be niade by the 13tb March. The poll, together with the local option poll, takes place on the 21st March. The returning officer for the Clutha district also notifies that nominations must be made by the 13th March. The poll will be held on the 21st. __________
