PRESERVATION INLET GOLDFIELD.

DISCOVERY OF RICH GOLD-BEARING STONE AT CUTTLE COVE. (Pbom Oub Own Cohbespokdent.) Very rich gold-bearing stone has just been discovered at Cuttle Cove by Messrs Henry and Purser, who have for the last two months been prospecting that district. The discovery was made by them when search' ing the higher ranges, and was traced leading into a large reef following down to the sea shorein Cuttle Cove. An outcrop was previously found by Cullen and Clark, but upon assay the stone was found to contain only a few pennyweights of gold to the ttn, therefore was never taken up, although Professor Hookergave it as his opinion that it would likely lead into rich stone, which it is believed is now proved to be the case. Three claims of 30 acres each have already been taken up, the first two—named the Crown and St. George—by a Daneain syndicate, whointend putting a large battery on the ground without delay, and the third one is also to be opened oub. It is expected more claims will be. taken up, as the reef is supposed to extend sl great distance through the country, which is unbroken, bo that good judges anticipate that a new goldfield will shortly be opened out. The Golden Site, on the Wilson river, arepushing forward their track to convey the machinery, which arrives by this steamer, and crushing operations will soon commence The Hesperides (No. 1 south) have struck, good gold-bearing stone near the surfacerunning np to the south and towards the LuckyShot, who have no less than three separatereefs m their claim and are now driving to cut the best gold-bearing one. The Surprise claim is also on stone carryinggood gold, and this claim is now under offer to. a syndicate.

At Crayfish Island Bradshaw and party have obtained over 70oz for the past three weeks' work, and F. Mackenzie and party are doing equally well, as are also M'Grath and party and several others.
