The jubilee of the Oddfellows, Manchester Unity, was celebrated to-day by a picnic at Tamaki. Those present came from all parts of the province. An excellent programme of sports was provided. About 4000 persona were present.
A very lively meeting of the Finance and Legal Committee of the Auckland Harbour Board was held, when the committee considered the annual address of the late chairman, Mr W. Crowther, M.H.K. The discussion on the speech was long, and it is asserted that members waxed very excited over Mr Crowther's address. Eventually it was decided to recommend that it was not necessary to print the address with the annual report as usual.
Wellington, February 25.
The Auckland representatives to tho New Zealand Rifle Association meeting left last night. The remainder of the North Island competitors leave to-morrow. Steady south rain set in last night, and has continued over to-day. The retirement of Mr H. G. Seth Smith, chief judge of the Native Lands Court, from office at the end of next month ia believed to be due to family bereavement, together with his own impaired eyesight. Mr Smith intends to leave the colony aDd take up his residence in England.
