OTAGO HARBOUR BOARD.

♦ The annual statutory meeting of the Otago Harbour Board was held yesterday afternoon. Chere were present the following members— Messrs H. Gcarley, N. Y. A. Wales, J. ftotan, SV. Barclay, W. Wright, J. $. Mackerras, MTriel, A. Moir, .vV. Murray, E. G. Allen, and D. Pinkerton, M.H.R. ELECTION OF CHAIRMAN. The Secretary having read the appointments by the Government and the election by various local bodies of members to the board, announced that the first business was the election of chair* man for the ensuing year. Mr M. Joel moved the re-election of Mr H. Gourley as chairman, Mr Gourley had been assiduous and attentive to his duties, painstaking in everything he tad done, and had made an excellent chairmaD, having held the position with satisfaction to the board and with ■credit to himself. Mr W'iiight seconded the motion, which was adopted unanimously. Mr H. Goublev: having taken the chair, said he could only thank members for the confidence they had shown by re-electing him as chairman for the ensuing 12 months. He could not say that they were likely to do great things during the coming year. Almost all they could do would be to try and keep down expenje.o aa far as might be compatible, with the efficiency of the service. He hVd no "doubt that members of tho board reco^nis-ed the necessity that existed for Ml to do their best to place the finances of the board on as satisfactory a basis as possible. COMMITTEES. On the motion of Mr Mackehius, the committees were appointed as follows (the chairman of the board being ex officio a member of all committees): — Works Committee — Messrs Allen, Carroll, Wales, and Barclay. Finance— Messr3 Mackerras, Wright, Joel, and Murray. Reserves—Messrs Robin, Pinkerton, Moir, and" Dawson.
