NEW SOUTH WALES v. NORfH ISLAND. (Pbb United Fbess Association.) Wellington, February 20. The game was resumed in beautiful weather, and the attendance was larger than yesterday, but not big. Lusk and Mills made a capital stand, tho former scoring rapidly, and the latter playing a strictly defensive game. He was at leDgtb got'rid of for 40, which took him 2 hours and 20 minutes to make. Williams was badly missed, and then saved a follow-on by some clean hitting. The tail gave no little trouble, and took the score to 184 before the last wicket fell. When the visitors went in a second time Upham proved to be well on tho spot, and, assisted somewhat by a wicket which was inclined to be bumpy at his end, sent back man after man. Had not two chances been missed 08 him the score would have been a great contrast to the first day's batting; bnt, as it was, six good men went down for.Bß. Cowley then came to the rescue, and by some determined hitting restored the balance of play. He is still in, and six wickets are ont for 116; so that, should the northern batsmen make anything of a stand to-morrow, there will be an interesting day's play.' Austin was clean off to-day, and bowled without any "devil"; and the fielding of the visitors was also off.- Scores:— w Nortji Islaxd.—First Innings. J.
