CRICKET.
At the instance of the General Committee of the Otago Cricketers' Association, a meeting of delegates, captains, and secretaries of affiliated clubs was held in Wain's Hotel on Saturday evening for the purpose of considering a scheme to reduce the indebtedness of the association's professional account under the old agreement. The President (Mr H. MacNeil, Jan.), in a short speech, clearly stated to those present the circumstances under which the debt had unfortunately arisen, the amount of the indebtedness, and the scheme which the committee had to saggestwith a view of lessening it. Blr MacNeil at the same time pointed out that the committee themselves could not successfully carry their suggestions into effect unless they had the hearty co-operation and sympathy of the cricketers as a whole. A discussion ensued at some length, during which it was evident that the meeting were strongly of opinion that the debt should be discharged this season; and it was ultimately resolved —" That the hon. secretary be instructed to forward subscription lists to the captains, secretaries, and delegates of associated club 3, who shall be expected to canvas actively among the members of their respective clubs, and obtain donations to the extent of at least 2s per member."
Mr T. D. Harman, the secretary to _ the Canterbury Association, on Saturday received a cable from Mr Davis to the efieci that the New South Wales team can stay another week in New Zealand. It is probable, therefore, that the dates of the Canterbury v. New South Wales match will be altered to February 1, 2, and 3, the Otago match being' played a week later than originally arranged, and the New Zealand match played on February 15,16, and 17. A match against South Canterbury will probably be arranged by the New South Wales men.
A Wellington telegram saya that it appears that in-giving Lawson not out the Wellington umpire adhered to the rule which has always been followed on the Basin Reserve. In a local match a similar instance once occurred, and the catch was disallowed. Since then it has been determined to follow the precedent thus set. An Auckland telegram states that the following will represent Auckland in the cricket match between New South Wales and Auckland, to be played on Friday and Saturday next:—J. Fowke, J. A. Kallander, R. Yates, I. Mills. W. Lawson, Lloyd, Quentry, J. Arneil, J. R. London, A. W. Jacobs, R. Neil!, 1. Kichards.
