Melbourne, January 15.

The last act of the notorious baby-farm, ing cases was enacted in Melbourne Gaol this morning, when Mrs Knoir was executed,

The execution took pace in tho presence of the sheriff and 15 witnesses. At five Tninutes to 10 the ccnvict joined Chaplains Scott and Whitton, Mrs Henderson (matron), and Miss Bryerson (warder) in singicg the hymns " Abide with me " and " Safe in the arms of Jesus." Mrs Knorr walked firmly to the drop, and stood without a quiver while the rope was being adjusted. Before tho bolt was drawn she said : " I do not fear what man can do unto mo, for I have peace, perfect peace." Death was instantaneous, no hitch of any kind occurring. The woman's confession is not yet available, but she has admitted two murders at least. She has also written to the Premier (Mr Patterson) a letter in reference to baby-farming legislation.

Mr Knorr was the first woman executed in Melbourne sicca 1803. She waa dressed in the ordinary prison dress, with her hair drawn back buc not out, Her step towards tho ecaflold was very firm, but In order to guard against a breakdown the medical officer of tho gaol walked close behind her and tapped her on the shoulder to encourage her. Hor confession has not yot been published.
