Auckland, December 7.
The election committee of the Labour candidate, Mr Tudehope, dissolved last night, but resolved to convene a meeting next week to form a, permanent Labour political: organisation with a view to securing one of more Labour candidates at the next general election.
, A polo match between a team from H.M.S. Curacoa and the Auckland Polo Club took place at Potter's paddock. The visitors won by two goals. "'
In a breach of promise case Rachaei M'Gregor against James Bowling, of Opofciki, in which £200 was claimed, a verdict by consent for £20 damages wa3 given for plaintiff, with costs on the lowest scale.
The total rainfall for Auckland for November was .7'l7iD, the highest yet recorded for that month.. The mean temperature for November in Auckland was the highest since 1864.
Wellington, Deciember 7. The amount of damages, which Mr H. D. Bell, M.H.R., is claiming from the publishers of Fairplay for the alleged libel is £501. At the City Council to-night, on the motion of Cr H.-B. Vogel, the following resolution was carried: —" That in the opinion of this council it would-be most advantageous for New Zealand local bodies, and especially for the city of Wellington, with a view to the conversion of loans and a reduction of interest, if the New Zealand law relating to the raising of loans by local, bodies were amended in the direction of allowing loans to be issued in the form of registered stock loans as well as in the present form of debentures; and that the delegates of the city to the Municipal Association' be instructed to bring the above resolution before the association, and to support and advocate a recommendation to the Government to make the said amendment," " ■ ' . The two lads who were arrested last night at the hostile demonstration made against a draper who had fallen away from the agreement to observe a Wednesday half-holiday were brought before the Police Court this morning aud remanded. A numbjr of summonses will be issued against other persons who took part in the demonstration for unlawful assembly. '
