SHOOTING CONTESTS.

On Saturday afternoon the second-class shots of the Dunedin Engineers fired a one-day competition for prizes presented by the corps. Conditions : Seven shots at 200 and 400 yards. There was an excellent turn-out of competitors, and some good scores were registered. The > following made over 40 points:—

A team.representing the Dunedin Rifle Club travelled to Port Chalmers on Saturday afternoon, and fired a match with the Port Chalmers Martini Rifle Club. The weather was fine, bub a strong southerly wind made the shooting difficult, at the long ranges. The Port men had a lead of 24- points on leaving the 200 yards, but the visitors regained them, and had a lead of four points.on leavingsoo yards, which they increased to! 38 point?, thus winning an interest-' ing and very pleasant match. On Saturday morning the High School Cadets fired a handicap competition for prizes of ammunition presented by the company. The light was somewhat changeable, but the wind was very steady and the air clear, so that five out of the eight who competed secured prizes. Scores: — 200 '400 500 .'- . - yds. yds. yds. The following is. the artillery corps1 team :— Captain Proudfoot, Lieutenants Monkman and Chalmer, Sergeants Baron and Taylor, Corporal Stewart, Bombardier West, Gunners Willis, Davys, and Moore, with Gunner M'Millan as emergency. The local team leave Dunedin by the 8 o'clock train on Thursday morning, returning the same night. Messrs G. and T. Young, of Princes street, have presented a trophy to be shot for by the members of B Battery daring the present shootiDg season, thus adding another trophy to the already large and valuable prizelist of the company.
