GOLF.
The Otago Golf Club held its monthly competition for the St. Andrew's Cross on Saturday. The weather was rather windy for good play, but two or three of the scores handed in were quite up to the club average. Mr W. B. Lees and Mr W. C. Macgregor tied for the medal with 89 each (93—4- and 95—6) and will require to play off. Mr J. H. Somerville, playing from scratch, followed with 90, and Mr G. Todd, jun., came next with 93 (95—2), and Mr Herbert Park, playing from scratch, did the round in 95. The terms on which the medal is played for are that the player winning it the greatest number of times during the present year wins a trophy. There is only one more competition to be heldfthis year, and as Mr Park and Mr J. R. Scott have already won the medal twice, there wili probably be a tie between them to be played o£ at the finish. '.' The open tournament promoted by the club, and to br; held on 30th inst. and the following days, promises to be quite a success, with a proviso of an improvement on the late weather, as there is nothing the golfer fears so much as playing in a wind. Competitors are promised from the Hutt Golf Club, the Christchurch Golf Club, the North Otago Golf Club, and the Dunedin Golf Club, besides the ladies' clubs here a;id iv Christchurch, so lovers of the game may ci.pect gome very interesting play in this the first tournament held in the colony.
