We are pleased to hear that the takings at the door have largely exceeded the expectations of the council, the receipts—especially on concert nights—having been very considerable. To-morrow night the working members, by pennisiion of the council, will give a smoke concert, and we believe thab arrangoments have been made by which all who desire to meeb the artists on this occasion will be welcomed and enterbained with music, song, and story. Several of our leading vocalists and: social entertainers have promised to give_ a hand in making this one of the successful nights of the season. The evening will be conducted'on similar lines to those adopted by the art societies of Sydney, Melbourne, New York, and London, and it promises to be very enjoyable. On Thursday there will ba a musical evening and on Friday the gallery closes. Our notice of the loan pictures, which has, owing to the pressure on our space, been hitherto crowded out, will appaar in a day or two.
