The Crown Prosecutor, in opening the case, said she had ■written a letter to a man named Thompson asking him to swear what she wanted in regard to a particular child she was charged ■with murdering, and not to let; her get a life sentence. She also asked him to endeavour to square counsel on the other side and not let her own counsel know she was manufacturing facts, as he would not permit it. She further requested Thompson to procure a woman to give false evidence-resDecting the i child. ' ■ * . ' A HEAVY FAILURE. Warnock, a resident of Cambsrwell, has filed owing to depreciation of investments in stocks. His liabilities are L 64..000 and his ■ assets L 20.000. THE BUTTER MARKET. . Sydney, November 27. (Received November 27, at 7.50 p.m.) The schooner Meg Merrilies, on arrival at Bismarck Island, was seized by the German authorities until a fine of £150 was paid for taking coloured labour from Hawes group •without a license. Captain Tin had to sell ms trading goods to raise the amount. He asserts^ the men were only shipped as a crew and intended to entar the island trade.
