( *. — ] , The High School v. Albion Second match was i concluded on the Asylum ground on Saturday, < and resulted ma decisive win for fche School by five ' wickets. The pitch was scarcely fit to be played ! on, bufc the Albion went to the wickets, and on , continuing their second innings were disposed i of for 27, Pullar (11) and Smyth (4) being the - highest scorers. The School obtained the ' necessary 26 with the lobb of five wickets, ] O'Shea (9, not out) and C. Gregg (7) making 1 most of the run?. "* i The match Carlton v. Crasaders was played * on the Exhibition ground on Saturday after- 1 noon, when the Carlton Club won by seven ! wickets. The principal scorers were: Fish (13)," ' D. Cameron (10), and Eyre (10) for the winners, ; and Fleming (9) and T. Cameron (8) for the • % losers. Eyre (10 wickets for 14) and Reid (five for 10) bowled well for the winners, as also did Mason (three for 10) and Peake (three for 17) ■ for the losers. Messrs Cornish and Wilkie were < the respective umpires. . ' * " AQUATICS. » The openiug of the Port Chalmers rowing : season took place on Saturday afternoon. ; Despite the unfavourable weather which pre- : vailed throughout the day the affair was a thorough success. A large number of visitors from the town clubs went down by trains brides several crews. The procession, headed by tbe launch Florence with Mr James Mills, M.H.R., Captain Cameron, Mr John Mill, E. G. Allen, and others on board, made a tour of the wharves, afterwards going round Goat Island. The clubs were represented as follows : Queen's Drive Boating Club two boats, Port Chalmers Rowing Club two boats, North End Boating Club three boats, Otago Rowing Club two boats, Dunedin Boating Club three boats. A crew of Queen's Drive ladies also taking part. Upon landing an adjournment was made to one of the goods sheds, where the ladies and - members of the Queen's Drive Boating Club entertained their guests in an exceedingly hearty manner, the ladies and Messrs Moore and Wilson working particularly hard. Mr James Mills (president of the Queen's Drive Club), in declariag the rowing season open, referred to the wonderful strides the club were making. Although only coming into existence lasfc year they had afc once made a name for themselves by securing the premiership, and he hoped that the other clubs would profit by the lesson given, and by friendly rivalry endeavour to keep up the interest taken in rowiDg by proving worthy opponents. He hoped to see ladies' rowing clubs established, and referred to the very good exhibition given that day by the ladies'from the club. He thought that a little encouragement was all that was necessary to render this a popular sport with the fair sex. After thanking the various clubs for their attendance he called for three cheers for the Queen's Drive Boating Club, which were very heartily responded to, as were cheers for Mr Mill, the ladies, and the president. The Porfc Chalmers Brass Band rendered selections throughout the day in a very pleasing manner. The launch Gordon beiDg placed at the services of the visitors the trip round the bay contributed largely tothe day's enjoyment. — Vienna is Wien to its own citizens, while the country of which ifc is the capital is not Austria, but Oesterreich.
