Sydney, July 30.
(Received July SO, at 6 p.m.)
In connection with the arrest at Liverpool of the chief officer and steward of the ship Durbridge (not Burbridge as previously telegraphed) for the murder of the captain, the particulars are as follows:—On August 8,1892, the body of Cipt. Little was found in his cabin in the vessel, which had arrived at Newcastle a few days before in ballast from Eio. The chief witness at the inquest was Jones, the chief steward, who deposed that the captain's continued intemperance on the voyage out and despondency had led him on several occasions to attempt suicide, and that, assisted by the chief officer, he locked the cabin to prevent him destroying himself. When the body was found the matter was reported to the police, and at the inquest the jury returned a verdict of " Suicide through mental trouble."
