Paths, October 20. (Received October 21, at 10.50 p.m.) The mining company in Carniaux have accepted the Premier's offer to act as arbitrator but the men have not come to a decision. The Paris municipality have voted 10,000 francs in aid of the strikers.
(Received October 22, at 1.15 a.m.) The men out on strike at Carmaux have accepted the Premier's offer to act as arbitrator.
(Psk United Pbess Association^ Napier, October 21. A largely-attended meeting of shopkeepers was held to-night to consider the best way of meeting the requirements of the Shop Assistants Bill. General regret was expressed that tne bill was not passed as introduced, making closing compulsory and leaving the local body to fix the day. There was a difference of opinion between Wednesday and Saturday, but finally the majority passed a resolution favouring Saturday, and a canvass of the town is to be made to get that day adopted. Wellington, October 21. Ihe Wellington employes talked of deputationisrog the Government to postpone the operation of the Shop Hours Act tilf the New lear, but the act came into force on October 11. Latitude has been given in order to allow the working of the law to be made satisfactory to all parties. The employers will therefore hold a aseetsng to settle the day for the halfholiday.

The weekly half-holiday movement has assumed quite a new phase since Wednesday iNiuety of the leading tradespeople have now consented to Saturday afternoon beia? observpd provided Friday becomes the acknowledged market day, to which all the auctioneers have agreed. One tradesman advertises that he will begin to close to-morrow. The agreement thus signed will be presented to the City Council on Monday.
