SCHOOL COMMISSIONERS.
The ordinary meeting of the Otago School Commissioners, held yesterday, was attended by Messrs J. P. Maitland (chairman), J. Walker Bain, Tiios. Deuniston, Jas. Green, P and the Hon. AY. H. Reynolds. Mr A. G Martin applied, on behalf of Mr A. r H. Kempthorne, for the right to cut timber on a run 202.—Consideration of the matter was deferred. r The Town Clerk of Lawrence wrote asking -. the commissioners to take steps to clear section 14, block XXXVI, and section 2, block !, XXIII, Lawrence, of gorse.—lt was decided r to inform the clerk that the sections in ques--1 tion would be offered for lease. i Mr J. N. Wood applied to lease section 74a, > block I, Wendou.—lt was resolved to ask the a warden if mining operations were being carried i, on on the section in question, or whether there was any likelihood of such being the case. 1 The commissioners considered the question > of resuming possession of part of run 301b, Te , Auau, for settlement.—lt was resolved that the tenant be informed that the commissioners t desire to resume about 500 acres, so as to 2 include the house of Mr Snodgrass, in terms of .. " The Otago School Commissioners' Empower- ■• ing Act 1892," and requested his consent to the same ; also that Messrs Barr and Denuiston be • authorised to arrange as to the location of the r said block. The Southland County Council applied for a 3 subsidy of pound for pound towards the construction of roads in the Wenuon, Wendonside, and Greenvale districts.—lt was decided to request Mr M'Donald to report in the interest of commissioners' tenants on the road works proposed.
