SOCIAL GATHERINGS.

The anniversary tea meeting in connection with St. Peter's Church, Cargill road, was held on Tuesday evening in the schoolroom, which was very tastefully decorated for the occasion. There was a large attendance of visitors, who did full justice to the good things, which were provided and dispensed by the following ladies :—Mesdames Fisher, A. Stronach, Lintott, Fotheringham, Burnett, Miss Nixon, Mesdames S. G. Smith, S. U. Gibson, Chalmer, Machin, W. Watson, Miss Brodrick, Mesdames Wootton Blanford, Harrison, and others. After the tables had been cleared away a splendid concert programme was presented, consisting of pianoforte solos by Madams Winter and Miss Nixon, a recitation by Miss Favell, a violin solo by Miss Mayßlaney, songs by Miss Kate Blaney, Mr C. Ronaldson, and Mr Strong, with tableaux and highly humorous sketches by Mr Price, one of which brought another enjoyable evening to a close.

The members of the Bible Class in connection with the Port Chalmers Presbyterian Church entertained the members and adherents at a "social" on Wednesday evening. Tho Rev. Dr Stuart, who presided, distributed prizes to Misses Bell, Fullerton, F. M'Kay. N. M'Kay, Watson, Fairley, Fogo, and Miller for essays on the first two parables. The vocal and instrumental music was greatly appreciated, and a debate on the question "Are School Prizes Beneficial to Education ?" proved interesting. The report read by Mr Blair expressed his satisfaction with the interest which the class had taken in their work.
