The s.s. Napier, with a cargo of timber from the coast, arrived at the Rattray street wharf at 5 a.na. yesterday. She left Waikawa at 6 a.m.-of the 2Sth inst. and had strong N.E. winds with dirty weather and heavy seas along the coast and arrived as above.

The s.s. Waihora steamed down to Port Chalmers at 9 a.m. yesterday, and 'after embarking passengers and mails left in the afternoon for Melbourne, via the Bluff and Hobart. • The Norwegian barque New Zealand put out the last of her Dunedin cargo yesterday. The ship Jessie Readman has put out over 500 tons of cargo at the Victoria wharf. As usual with the good ship, it is turning out in excellent condition. ■■ '..'-.•

The barque Routehbeck will be ready to take in stiffening cargo to-day. , • The steamer Gulf of Taranto recently arrived at Sydney on her maiden voyage. She is a fine powerful cargo vessel, capable of carrying 5000 tons of general merchandise, and possesses limited but good passenger accommodation. The line to which she belongs; the Greenock Steamship Company, has a number of steamers in the Australian trade, aud the Gulf of Taranto is a foe simile of the Gulf of Siam.:.: She :is-fitted up with the electric light, and is in all respects one of the finest type of cargo merchantmen. On her trial trip, made just before she was placed on the loading berth for Sydney,'a speed of 13 knots was attained by the vessel. ••■ '
