Messrs Barry and Co. report, under date, 2nd .lute Fabrics.—Vrices in the early part of the fortnight under review continued to full, till Us. 1-3-0 was reached for lUlli packs, at which ordure for some 500 bales are reported to have been placed. The market now appears to have reached bottom, and during the past week a decidedly firmer tone has prevailed, with a general recovery in prices, and manufacturer.-! today ask lie. 1-4-U for ll.\U) packs. Sterling exchange since our last has fallen rapidly from Is 4d to its present basis of Is 33d for fi ra/st credit bills, and, the future of tho price of silver liein? most uncertain, it is impossible to olfer any opinion as to the direction of exchange. Inquiries have tan received for cornsacks for early autumn shipment, Initmanufacturers decline to engage themselves For so distant a delivery owing to the scarcity of the raw material. Light goods having advanced, bran bags are quoted higher. The revival in the country demand and the impetus given to the export trade by the fall in exchange and Homeward freights have imparted a very firm feeling, and indications point to a further substantial rise in values.
Messrs Balmer, Lawrie, and Co. report under the same date that Seeta rice is in fair demand for the Home market, and prices have advanced. They quota Seeta, Rs. 5-ti-O to Rs. 5-8-0; sifted table, Rs. 5-2-0 to Rs. 5-4-0.; and cleaned gross, Rs. 4-14-0 to Rs. 5-0-0.
