SALE OF GROWN LANDS.

All important sale of pastoral licenses, sjiip.U grazing run leases, and uther Crown lands was conducted by Mr T. Olmliuer, salesman to the binds department, at the Central auction rooms on the 29th ult. There was a large attendance of nmholders, station agents, and other persons interested. The auctioneer flint submitted under the hammer the licenses for 35 pastoral rsiii3. For five of these there was no olfer and they were accordingly passed in. All but four of the others were knocked down at the upset rental—in each instance, we believe, to the former

holder. For run 215, which is part of the Moa Flat station in the Tuapeka county, there was keen competition. The run was started at the upset of ti2oo by Messrs Murray, Roberts, and: Co. (acting for Mr Joseph Clarke), and Mr A. G. Fenwick then made an offer of L2lO. By bids of LLO and L 5 the figure was carried up to L4!iO before Messrs Murray, ltoberts, aud Co. became the purchasers. Similarly, the pastoral license of run 227, parfcof Laudorstation, was the subject of a, spirited contest between Messrs lioss and Glendining and Mr \V. C. Smith, the former, who bade the upset of- 1.500, having to advance their olTer to LBOO before they secured the run. For run 228 is, part of Ilawkdun station, the upset for which was LSO pcr1 annum, Mr E. K. Smith entered into competition with Mr E. J. Spence, whose bid of L 92, on behalf of Mr F. G. Ualgety, was eventually successful. For the grouped runs 453 and 4(s, Lake Comity, which, comprising the vast area of 57,400 acres, were put up at annual rental of LlO, there also was some competition, Messrs Donald Reid and Co., Messrs W. Seoular and Co., and Messrs Strouach Brothers and Morris all competing for the license, which was finally knocked down to the fnstmentioned bidders at L 34. The leases for small grazing runs in the Budle, Dunback, Highlay, and "Waihemo districts were very spiritedly contested for, and in every instance the upset annual rental, which was computed at the rate of Gd per acre, was largely exceeded. Several rural sections and sections of town and suburban hinds were also disposed of. The following are particulars of. the mstoral runs that were offered and of the other lots that were quitted :— Pastoral LiciiNSEsCunder Part VI of " The Land
