THE D.J.C.'S LATEST MOVE.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —I have lately been reading with ti great deal of surprise the laws made and motions passed by that body of men calling themselves the Dunedin Jockey Club for the stoppage of cash betting at the Forbury. They are determined to treat the unfortunate bookmakers like worms', nnd compel backers to invest us they dictate, forgetting the old saying that even a worm will tuvn. I, for one, feel a strong inclination to light the Jockoy Club with their own weapons, and it only needs a little determination to upset all their nice arrangements. If the bookmaker is to be deprived of his present way of making a living, surely he will, in reason, attempt to revenge himself. The best way I can see is to demand a return of any money he may invest on the machine. That is one way to prevent himself from being ridden over rough-shod by those who are determined to have their own way, no matter how much harm they may be doing, without any consideration for those on whom it is inflicted.—l am, &c.', Counter-organisation. Dunedin, March 21.
