COMPLIMENTARY RACE MEETING. (Pbb United Pbess Association.) Auckland, February 20. The Auckland Racing Club gave a complimentary race meeting at Ellerslie to-day in honour of Lord and Lady Onslow, who. are about to leave for England. Earl and Lady Onslow drove out to the course accompanied by the Hon. P. A. Buckley, Attorneygeneral, and were entertained at luncheon by the authorities of the club. Colonel Dawsbn, vice-president, proposed the health of the Governor and his wife. The toast was received with enthusiasm and was suitably acknowledged by Lord Onslow, who, in returning thanks for the many kindnesses he and Lady Onslow had received in Auckland, said that the race meeting that day was a very happy way of saying fare, well, and pleased them exceedingly.' As the' weather was unfavourable, several showers falling, there was only a moderate attendance of the public, and the ground was very heavy for the racing, which nevertheless was interesting except for the Steeplechase, in which Fishmonger, the winner, was the only horse to travel the country without mistake. The double victory of Morion, who was in excellent form, was well received. The sum of L 4051 was invested in the totalisators during the day. The following are the results of the races :—

Morion, however, soon had the leader in trouble, and taking first place in the straight ran home an easy winner by two lengths, a length between the second and third horses. From a beautiful start Pinfire went to the head of the field, with Dolosa, "Leorina, and Scot Free nearest him. As they travelled out of the straight Leorina went into second place, and she and Pinfire were almost together at the back of the course, three lengths in front of Dolosa, Scot Free fourth and Morion fifth. So they ran to the half-mile post (where the field grouped closely), Dolosa coming with a run, which proved to be a flash in the pan, Morion at the same time creeping into 'prominence. Pinfire led into the straight, but Morion was given his head when the horses were in a line for home, and quickly smothering whatever chance Pinfire had, he won by a length, though Denton had to draw the^whip to him in the last few strides, Pinfire kept to his task so gamely.
