CABLE BREVITIES.
The Queen of Saxony is suffering from influenza. General Stewart will continue to act as military adviser to New Zealand. The Rotomahana, which went ashore in the River Tamar, Tasmania, has been floated off uninjured. Sir W. Robinson, Governor, has accepted the Agent-generalship of Western Australia, at a salary of LISOO per annum. Lord Salisbury is arranging for a royal commission to examine into and report upon the influenza epidemic. At a meeting of the creditors of- the Bank of Van Diemen's Land, the chairman intimated that creditors would be paid in full. The Sydney Labour Electoral Conference have decided to recommend their various branches to call upon members who were recalcitrant during the recent crisis to resign their seats. President Harrison, in a second Message to Congress, says that the Chilian reply offers good prospects of a settlement of the incident, which is now considered to be closed. The South Australian Government are trying to place Treasury bonds at 4^, with five years' currency. The Daily News suggests two years, and says that the rate must be increased to make the issue succeed.
General Menabrea, Italian' Ambassador in Paris, has resigned, owing to his son (Count .Menabrea) having taken out letters of naturalisation in order to procure a divorce from his wife. Signor Ressimann, Counsellor to the Embassy, succeeds him.
