TO THE EDITOR.

Sm, —As one who uses the public roads on the Peninsula, I was glad to notice that the Portobello Road Board had taken proceedings against cattle owners allowing their cattle to wander on the roads. Surely Mr Elmer, who presided at the Police Court yesterday, can have no knowledge of the great risk to life which cattle straying on the road occasions. Calves are the worst class of trespassers, as they lie on the road, suddenly rise, and don't get out of the way as grown up cattle do. Some of our J.P's. have strange notions of justice, anil instead of calves trespassing being any excuse, they are really more series and annoying than horses or cows. —I am, &e.,
