CHARITABLE AID BOARD.
The monthly meeting of the committee of the Charitable Aid Board was held on Thursday afternoon iv the Town Hall. Present: Messrs J. Robin (chairman), H. Clark, J. Green, J. R. Monson, P. Miller, and H. F. Hardy. The requisition of the Benevolent Institution Trustees for December and January was L 1297 13s lOd. An interim payment of L7OO was made on the 15th, and it was agreed to pay the balance of L59713510d.
The,lndustrial School requisition for the quarter ended December 31 was LIO7O 8s 7d. —It was resolved to pay an instalment of-L2OO.
The Chairman reported that arrangements had been made with the manager of the Colonial Bank for an overdraft of LISOO.
The Secretary of the Benevolent Institution Trustees wrote with reference to the moneys the trustees have in their hands, which, however, they could not use.—The Chairman, in answer to Mr Miller, said it was evident that there was a sum of L 705 in the possession of the trustees that they might use.—The chairman and Mr Miller were appointed to wait on the trustees with reference to the matter.
HOSPITAL BOARD. The monthly meeting of the Hospital Board was held in the Town Hall yesterday afternoon. Present—Messrs J. Robin (chairman). J. Green, If. Clark, A. C. Begg, and J. R. Monson. The Hospital Trustees wrote requesting that an account for new bedsteads, amounting to L 212 10s, be paid.—Mr Green moved —"That the sum be paid out of the interest on the Campbell bequest." There was no doubt the bedsteads were solely for the benefit of the Hospital Trustees, and they would therefore be quite justified in using the money.—Mr Clark seconded the motion, which was carried.
The requisition for hospital maintenance for December, amounting to L 431 2s Sd, was passed for payment.—ln moving that this sum be paid, the Chairman remarked that he must say for the chairman of the Hospital Trustees (Mr Miller) that he did not only talk about keeping the expenditure down, but he saw that it was kept down to the estimate.
The Hospital Trustees wrote applying for a sum of L3OO for the purpose of furnishing the nurses' home, now almost completed.—Mr Green moved and Mr Monson seconded —"That the sjmount be paid."—Mr Begu suggested that an attempt should be made to raise Ll2O outside the board, which sum the Government subsidy would increase to the desired L3OO. —The Chairman said several attempts had been made to raise the money, but none of the proposed methods had been carried out. Ho might say that he was of opinion that next year one or two alterations ■yyould be made to the hospital—a new wing, for instance—and to cover the extra expenditure it was pretty evident that the contributing bodies would have to pay a little more than they did last year.—After further discussion the motion was carried,
