ROBERT HUNTER AND THE PRICE OF LAMB.

TO THE F.DITOU.

Sin,—We noticed a letter in jour columns last week signed "Robert Hunter," refering to the price of fat lambs sold at Burnside, and then retailed out by the butchers. When we first saw the letter we came to the conclusion that the writer was a new arrival, because he goes to Burnside, sees the lambs sold, and there and then makes up his mind to treat his family to a quarter, implying, of course, they had never tasted New Zealand lamb before. Wo will not trouble you, Su-, with the weight of the lambs sold or the price of them, because that appeared directly afterwards in the daily papers, and we think the assignee, can inform Robert Hunter that to his knowledge the butchers have no ring. But we certainly think, Sir, it is the duty of the trade to inform the public the price per lb Robert Hunter was charged for this hindquarter of lamb, so they may judge whether he has been taken advantage of or not; more especially so if he is a new arrival. Mr Hunter admits buying a hindquarter of lamb, weighing 91b lOoz, for 3s 6d, or costing him under 4-cl per lb for the best joint sold in a butcher's shop, and yet he growls and says : Two hindquarters lamb, 7s; two forequarters, 5s ; skin, Is 6d;—total, 13s 6d. As Robert Hunterappears good at figures, before rushing into print again we would advise him to reckon in this way:—Hindquartev lamb, 3s 6d ; fare to Burnside (first-class), Is; dinner, Is ; bottle of lemonade, 6d ;—total, 6s.—Wo-are, &c, January 16.
