MINING.

The manager of the Roxburgh Amalgamated Mining and Sluicing Company (Limited) reports for the week ending the 9th iust. as follows :— " Both elevators have been running full time except nine hours on Friday. On thatday I was compelled to have the water out of the race. Through the continuous wet weather the race had settled a quarter of a mile more or less, in different places, so that 1 could not get a full supply of water through. I shall wash No. 1 and 2 on Thursday and Friday."

The mine manager of the Amalgamated Waipori Deep Lead Gold Mining Company (Limited) reports for the week ending January 9 as follows : "The lifting of the remaining bottom stuff has been a more tedious job than I anticipated, and I did not get all the bottom cleaned off. Heavy rain on Saturday afternoon put a stop to our work for the week, the collection of water from the paddock watershed being more than the elevator could compete with and the paddock became slightly Hooded. The river also was in a very high state of flood but did not do us any harm. The water races broke away in four places, but sufficient water comes through to keep the elevator going to pump the paddock dry. Tuesdaymorning, January 12.—A1l hands at work yesterday repairing races. Got to work in paddock at 8 p.m. (Monday), and had debris, &c, cleared away and everything in working order again at 4 this morning. The construction of the dam is progressing as favourably as circumstances and broken weather will permit. No serious damage has been done to it by the heaviest Hood known to the proverbial oldest inhabitant."
