Hanlon appeared for the accused, and stated that as the caso was only placed in his hands a few minutes before the court sat, he would be under the necessity of asking for a remand until the following day.—Detective Henderson said that he also wished for a remand, but he wanted a longer remand than that asked for by Mr Hanlon. The man had ouly arrived in town from Tuapeka on Saturday, and as witnesses would have to be brought from Lawrence and Jlilton, he could not go on with the ease until Friday.—Sir Hanlon objected to so long an adjournment. The man was a stranger here and could not obtain bail. It was unnecessary to keep him in gaol for such a period.
