CITY POLICE COURT.
Tuesday, December 8. (Beforo Messrs J. P. Farquhar and Geo. Fenwiek, J.P's.) Damaging Trees.—AVilliam Clark (13) was charged with uulawfully cutting an oak tree in the Southern Recreation Reserve.—Accused pleaded guilty.'—Sergeant-major Bevin explained that on the 14th of last month it was reported to Constable Higgins that this tree had been cut, and the officer, making inquiries, found that the lad had done it.—Mr Moore, head master of the Kensington School, at which the boy attended, obtained permission to speak a few words. He gave the accused an excellent character, and stated that he ivas very sorry for what he had done. — The Bench said that the position was this : The trees were placed in the reserve for the benefit of the general public, and to mako the town look more beautiful than it otherwise would. The Bench was satisfied that the lad did uot I cut the tree with any wilful intention of doing harm, but hoped that these proceedings would be a warning to him.—Accused would be discharged. _____
