THE LONDON MARKETS.

From reports to hand by the San Francisco wail, dated October 30, we make the following " Wool!— Much of the information to hand is discounted by the recent series of sales. The N.Z.L. and M.A. Company emphasise the depreciation in the value of New Zealand merino in grease, owing to the unsatisfactory rendement of most of the clips purchased at the third series causing buyers to be chary of bidding for heavy-conditioned I>lOorn' Market.—The wheat crop of the United Kingdom was estimated at !),00O,O00iirs. The N.Z. L. and M.A. Company report:—ln common with other descriptions New Zealand oats have met a good inquiry; notwithstanding somewhat heavy arrivals, prices have advanced from Is t«l to 2s per quarter. Barley has recently been in ■better request at Is per quarter more money. Rabbitsldns.—The N.Z.L. and M.A. Co. report: —"The auctions held on the ilth inst. comprised the exceptional total of 2,353 bales. In spite of the heavy offerings there was a fair demand, 1.857 bales being sold under the hammer. Prices were very irregular, declining on average from Id to 2d per lb, the maximum decline being reached in the case of medium and inferior skins. We quote :— Good to prime New Zealand skins, averaging ljlb to 21b per dozen, Is fijd to Is SJd per lb ; fair ordinary to good dp do lglb to 2Jlb per dozen, Is Id to Is (id per lb ; common and low season do do lib to £lb per dozen, Ud to Is per lb ; black and fawn do, 5d to Is 4d per lb; small and suckers do. 4}d to Sid per lb." Dairy Produce.—There were no New Zealand consignments of butter or cheese on the market when the mail left.

Hemp.—Messrs W. Weddel and Co. report:— "The quantity catalogued for sale in public auctions held during the past fortnight was very light—only about 425 bales, 350 of which were sold at about former rates. Stocks in first hands are now in smaller compass, but the low prices current for Manila and sisal have depreciated the value of New Zealand parcels. We quote: Fine Auckland, L2410s to L 25; good Lyttelton, L22 to 1-23; fair Wellington, Ll9 10s to L2O; common, LIS to Ll9; tow, Lsto L 6 per ton." . Frozen Meat.—Messrs Nelson Brothers report: " There is a glut in the market from all quarters, the bad weather and floods having caused many English sheep to be slaughtered, sending prices lower than they have been for years. English ewes and Dutch sheep, many of the latter not in tirst-class condition, have been severe competitors; fora portion of the public seem to prefersheep of poor quality, if freshly killed, to sound, wholesome, well-fed frozen meat of infinitely superior quality and condition. Even the primest Canterbury sheep that, as a rule, maintain their-value for moderate quantities, have.felt the lower prices and slack demand, and, though a line or two of really choice level sheep made 4ild early in the month, we now quote 4Jd as top price. Other New Zealand sheep have been very slow of sale at 3Jd to 3Jd; ewes are worth 3d, being in demand at that price, while New Zealand merinos, of which, unfortunately, an unwonted

number have been sent home this season, are un-

saleable as long as Australians are on offer at 3d per lb, a price they are now realising. There has been bo inquiry for hind quarters of beef at Sniithtield. American refrigerated have been far too plentiful and cheap, and the demand in the country has slackened to a great extent notwithstanding the low prices holders, in many instances, are willing to take. Fore quarters have been in more request both in town and country. The price, however, keeps very low, and 2W to 3d per lb should be a tempting one to buyers."
