She left Williamstown at 6.15 p.m. on the Ist, arrived at Holiart at f1.15 a.m. on the 3rd; left at 5.30 p.m., and was abreast of Puysegur light at 7.30 p.m. on the (ith, arriving at the Bluff at 5.30.a.m. Experienced fine weather throughout, with moderate northerly winds for the greater part of the trip. The s.s. Rotorua left the Rattray street wharf yesterday afternoon with passengers and cargo for northern ports. The barque lone took in cargo at the Rattray street wharf yesterday. She leaves to-day for Lyttelton, and will, we understand, load at that port for the United Kingdom. The barque Cordillera has taken in over 8700 sacks of grain at the Rattray street wharf. She is expected to be a full ship by Wednesday. The s.s. Hauroto took in cargo at the Jetty street wharf yesterday. She leaves this afternoon for Sydney, via Oamaru and Cook Straits.

The s.s: Rotokino completed the discharge of her cargo yesterday afternoon and steamed down to Port Chalmers.

The brigantine Enterprise and schooner Lily are completing cargoes at the Dunedin wharves for Kajfer. _ .....

The barque Hurunui had only about COO tons of cargo left on board yesterday. She is working two hatches, and is expected to be all clear by Wednesday, and will then take in a quantity of grain before proceeding to Port Chalmers to complete loading for London.

During the week ending December 6,14 vessels, with a total of 5370 tons register, arrived at the Dunedin wharves; and 11 vessels, representing 6105 tons, left them.

The s.s. Invereargill lauded cargo at the Rattray street wharf yesterday. She leaves to-day for the south.

The s.s. Maori steamed down from Dunedin yesterday morning and was berthed at the Bowen pier. After discharging a few tons of iron she commenced to take in wool and skins.

The s.s. Mararba will be hauled into the graving dock this morning for cleaning and re-painting.

The ship Taranaki has taken in over 4000 sacks of oats and a few bales of skins.

The s.s. Napier lauded cargo at the Dunedin wharf yesterday. She leaves again to-day for. Fortrose.

The Union Company's s.s. Mangana is to leave Danedin this afternoon," and will take up her running between Wellington, Picton, and Nelson for the summer season. Captain Lambert (late of the Omapere) lias been appointed to command her. Since the JJlangana's arrival at Port Chalmers she has undergone a complete overhaul. The whole of the saloon has been thoroughly cleaned, repainted, and very tastefully decorated. All the settees, chairs, and couches have been newly covered with crimson Utrecht velvet, and both saloon and sleeping cabins have been newly carpeted. The ladies' cabin and social hall have been repainted and decorated, while the captain and officers' rooms have all been thoroughly cleaned and put into good order. The secondclass passengers' compartment has also received a due share of. attention; the saloon and sleeping berths have all been thoroughly cleaned, painted, and decorated; the baths and lavatories throughout the ship have been cleaned, polished, and put into perfect order. The quarters of the seamen and firemen have all been thoroughly cleaned and painted, and the whole of the deck work has been completely renovated. All the boats have been fitted with patent disengaging gear, and each one fully supplied with lifebuoys and belts. The holds have been chipped, cleaned, and received two coats of paint; the steam winches and wmulass have been overhauled and put in good order; while all the cargo gear has been refitted ; and some new awnings have been supplied. Every necessary detail has been completed to the entire satisfaction of Captain Cameron, the company's marine superintendent, and the travelling public in the north will have a most comfortable - boat at their disposal. THE DIRECT STEAMERS. The Shaw, Savill, and Albion Company's R.JI.S. lonic with the mails and passengers left Lyttelton at 4.23 p.m. on September 19 for London. From the day of departure until October 3, the day of rounding Cape Horn, the ship met with nothing but a succession of variable airs and light winds, and during the whole of this time the square sails were never once set. After rounding the Horn had fresh S.W. winds, which continued until the ship was abreast of the River Plate, when they died away. For the remainder of the trip up the coast of South America had light N.E. ■winds. Reached Rio de Janeiro at (i.20 p.m. on October 10, and did not leave again till 2.28 p.m. on October 12. At Rio things were rather unsettled, as recently there had been some rioting, and the evening previous to the lonic's arrival several people (including one Englishman) had been shot in the streets in an encounter with the police. After leaving Rio experienced light and variable winds and fine weather. The S.K trades were picked up in Int. 12 S., and gave out in about 2 N The line was crossed in long. 2S| W. The N.E. trades were encountered in lat. SN. Teneriffe was reached at 7.51 a.m. on October 4, and at 1.27 p.m. same day left again. After leaving Teneriffe had a very heavy head sea and strong N. breeze, which the following day increased to a gale, which continued till reaching Cape Finisterre, when it moderated. For the iirst part of the- iournev across the Bay of Biscay had light N. wind and smooth sea, but half-way across met with an easterly gale, which continued till arrival at Plymouth at 1 a.m. on October 30. « AMERICAN SHIPPING. Messrs H. W. Peabody and Co. report, under date New York, November 7, that the barque J H. Marsters, 632 tons, was loading for Dunedin and Lyttelton and was to sail on the 15th November ; the barque Annie Reid, 710 tons, was loading for Dunedin, Wellington, and Auckland, and was to sail on the 25th November.
