SALE OF EDUCATION RESERVES.

The sale of Education Reserves, held by Messrs E. C. Reynolds and Co. yesterday, attracted a very largo attendance, their rooms being crowded by buyers from all parts of Otago, and the prices bid for the various lands serve to show the demand which exists when offered in suitably sized allotments. The bidding from the outset was keen, and competition brisk, notwithstanding the caution administered to the audience by the auctioneer before beginning the sale, which was that he did not wish any fictitious values bid by anyone with the idea of securing the land, and ultimately applying to the Board of Governors for s reduction. After this caution anyone who bid must be prepared to complete his purchase or leaße to the extent he went, for the board would grant no concessions later of any kind. This was warmly applauded by the company present, and business began with 14 years' leases of sections in the Mokoreta district, and then followed the freeholds in Strath Taierij leases, Strath Taieri; village settlement, same district; and township sections in Arden, adjoining Middlemarch. A pleasurable feature of the sale was that notwithstanding the large attendance and lively competition for the sections, in no case was a bid disputed, and the proceedings passed off in a most orderly manner.
