NEWS, GOSSIP, AND ADS
Roller skating this evening at the City Hall Barah Flanagan, who with her mother is under sentenoe for child murder, has had to be removed to hospital quarters from Lyttelton gaol, having contracted a lung complaint. Mr Franoia L. Ciarke sustained a fracture of the left leg yesterday morning through a kick from a horse. The sufferer was removed to the hospital, where he was attended to by Dr Coughtrey. Dear me! Is that possible? Thus said Mrs HI i a9 t evening, on being told that the cup oE tea she had so thoroughly enjoyed had only cost 2s per lb. Ib happened to be the Bungalow Blend, No. 1 strength. | On Wednesday evening Mr D. B. Ivory, of the local telegraph staff, who is about to enter the bonds of wedlock, was the recipient of a handsome album, suitably inscribed, which was presented by his brother officers. Between 30 and 40 gentlemen attended the opening lecture of the St. John Ambulance Association, held last evening at the Central Fire Brigade Station. In an interesting manner Dr Stenhouse lectured on "The Human Skeleton, Langs, Circulation of the Blood, and Nerve?, &c." The lecture was illustrated by diagrams, &o. At the close some of the uses of the triangular bandage were showD. The next leoture is on Thursday, the subject being " Bleeding, aad how to arreßt it." Old Colonel Stubbins is just as querulous as ever. To his mind nothingmodern compares with the " old time " experiences, but he has at last been compelled to allow of one exception. He always insisted that billy tea was preferable to that wishy-washy stuff concocted in teapots, until he tasted the Bungalow Blend, No. 2 strength, at 2s 4d a lb. •
