SCHOOL COMMIT TEE.

The ordinary meeting of the Union street Sohool Committee, held last evening, was attended by Messrs J. L. Gillies (chairman), Duthie, Brownlie, Israel, Swan, aud Matthews. It was decided that the sohool should close for tho midwinter holidays from the 3rd to the 13th July. Mr Petrie wrote iuforming the ootiimitteo that he intended to iuspeot the school on the 15th inst. The Clerk of the Schools' Conference wrote referring the committee to the new notice of motions for the meeting of tbe conference to ba held on the 30th inst. It was decided to reoommend the committee's delegates to support the following platform:—(l) Members of committee to bo adults residing within the school district; (2) tho elections to be triennial; (3) that a roll be specially compiled for each school district; (4) that those entitled to be placed on the roll bo adults residing within tho district, or guardians of children atteuding school; (5) hours for voting to be from 2 o'clock till 8 p.m., when the poll will be closed,, a returning officer to be in charge, but scrutineers m&y bo appointed. Voting papers to beobtained only from the returning officer; (6) the present system of electing the Education Board is preferred; (7) the committee object to school committees' being appointed corporate bodies; (8) while agreeing to the principle that teachers should abstain from interfering in elections, the committee deoline to pass any definite resolution; (9) the time has now arrived when the Education Board ehould be asked to appoint a truant officer in the city of Dunedin and Buburbs.
