MINING.
The manager of the Hoxburgh Amalgamated Mining and Sluicing Company (Limited) reports for the week ending June 6as follows:-" I got No. 1 elevator Into position and started running at 4 pm, on Monday, which has been running steadily all the week, except a few hours' stoppage to put In a new liner. The dirt operated upon looks very promi.lD*, and should give n good return at the end of next week. Elevator No. 2 has been ronniDg steadily during the week until Saturday rooming, when I wßßbed down and took down ttie elevator, for the purpose of putting In the sinking elevator to get on to the Bottom, 'iba returns from <N0.21 coniider very good, as the principal of the dirt put through was that layer of drift. I may say I have got down to another layer of wain under the drift, but I have not been able to prospect It yet. I hope to do so during next week."
The secretary of the Wakatlpu Dredging Company reports having reoelved from the company's dreaeemarter (Mr W. H. Cutten) a telegram to the followlaft °k" amalgam for 111 hours"dredging
