NEW ZEALAND YACHTING ASSOCIATION.
(Fee United Peess Association.)
Wellington, June 8.
A meeting of gentlemen interested in the formation of a yachting association for New Zealand was held to-night, when the following delegates were present:—T. G. Graham and T. Henderson (Auckland), J. Eitch (Lyttelton), J. Coutts and G. Mcc (Wellington). It was decided to call the association " The New Zealand Yachting Association." The proposed rules were discussed seriatim. It
was decided: —(l) That each club belonging to the association having from 15 to 30 members should be entitled to send two delegates and an additional delegate for every additional 30 members; (2) that the annual meeting should be held at the port at which the championship h held; (3) to hold two championship races in each year instead of one as originally proposed; (4) that any yacht or sailing club having 15 and more members shall be eligible for election to the association. Considerable discussion took place as to fixing the tonnage of boats competing the first-class champion race. Mr Henderson, of Auckland, pointed out that it might happen that a three-tonner in a very light wind could beat a boat 20 times her size, and he considered it would be absurd to characterise such a small, boat the champion yacht of the colony. It was ultimately decided that yachts competing in firstclass races would have to bo seven tons and upwards, and for second-class championship under seven tons and not less than four. It was decided to adopt the British system of measurement instead of that adopted at Auckland.
