The large and rare fish whicb was recently stranded at Okain's Bay, Canterbury, has been pronounced by Mr Forbes and others to be a very fine specimen of the Regalicus Paciflcus, frequently known as the ribbon fish, and sometimes called king of the herring. It is ZOft long. Mr Peel, a eon of the Speaker, has been appointed one of the clerks of the House of Commons. The post is not one upon personal nomination, but has been won by competitive examination. It is affirmed that Prince Victor Bonaparte has inherited nothing from his father save what he is entitled to strictly by law. The personal property of Prince Napoleon is to be divided equally between his second son, Prince Louis, and the Princess Lsetitia, Princess Clotilde, the widow, having a life interest in it. Prince Louis will also inherit the Prangins Chateau, with its mementoes of tho First NapoleoD, books, manuscripts, and family papers. It is stated further that Prince Napoleon expressed in his testament his wish to be buried in Paris without any religious ceremony. The St. Petersburgh correspondent of tho Daily Chronicle says that according to intelligence from Baku an enormous fountain of naphtha has just beeu tapped in the neighbourhood. The new fountain is of unusual size, and has, for the last fortnight been throwing up naphtha at the rate of about 5000 tons a dty. It pours out in such immense quantities that it bas formed a small river. Crowds of people are flocking to Baku to sco tho stream, whicb is probaly worth several millions of roubles to the company that discovered it. As a result of this stream having been tapped the price of naphtha has fallen some 30 per cent.
