CITY POLICE COURT.

Satdhdat, May 30. (Beforo Mr George Fenwiek, J.P.) Drunkenness.—For this offence two first offenders were each fined ss; in default, 24 hours' imprisonment. Bbeacit op tub Peace.—Patrick Hennessy pleaded not guilty to a charge of behaving in a manner whereby a breach of tho peace was occasioned in Maclaggan street on Friday afternoon last.--Constable Cooney gave evidence that at tho timo mentioned he saw the accused walking up Maclaggan street, and a man named Curran was on tho other side carrying akerosene tin. The accused crossed over the road and deliberately struck Curran. —The latter being called did not answer to his name, and the Bench stated that it was the duty of the police to see that he was present. If a remand were requested it would be granted.—On the application of the police the case was accordingly remanded. (Before Messrs G. Fenwiek and D. Stronach, J.P's.) Alleoed Larceny.—John Wyso, a middleaged man, was charged with stealing a clock valued £5, tho property of William Satchler, on the 23rd inst.—Detective Henderson stated that iv this case he would have to apply for a remand. The accused was only arrested on the previous day, and there was no time to prepare the case. As the detectives would be engaged in the Supreme Court during the week, a remand until Thursday would be applied for.—The Bench stated that the case should be dealt with, if possible, beforo the termination of the oriminal sittings, for otherwise if a committal ensued the accused would have to wait a long time | for the next sittings.—Detective Henderson said it was impossible to proceed with the case before Thursday.—ln anßwer to the Bench, the accused said that be had no objection to a remand being granted, although he would have preferred that the case be beard on that day. When tho bench heard the circumstances of the case they would laugh, as the prosecution was a farce. —The case was remanded until ' Thursday next.
